Subject: ED/IRS Skiptracing Unavailable
Late last week, the Department of Education posted a notice that the skiptracing service it operates in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service for the Perkins Loan Program will be unavailable “until further notice.” The shutdown is due to the end of the agreement between the two agencies. The Department’s notice indicates that it is attempting it renew the agreement and ensure the security of the system.

This is to notify you that the Department of Education/Internal Revenue Service Skiptracing Service for the Federal Perkins Loan Program will be unavailable until further notice. The Department of Education is currently working with the Internal Revenue Service to renew our agreement. In addition, we are reviewing our procedures to ensure that they are fully compliant with current data security standards.
We will notify you of the completion of our work by posting updated procedures on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
