Subject: Department Releases NSLDS Update on HERA Reporting Requirements
Last Friday, the Department of Education released a “Technical Update” regarding the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). The update contains information on reporting requirements related to the new military deferment, as authorized by the Higher Education Reconciliation Act (HERA), and hurricane-related Perkins Loan discharges.
The update, available at http://ifap.ed.gov/nsldsmaterials/PK200602.html, also includes links to download updated deferment type codes and deferment usage codes.
Regarding the military deferment, COHEAO will hold an interactive teleconference on the subject, as well as on teacher loan cancellation issues on Thursday, August 24 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, eastern time. You can register online at www.coheao.org or by mailing or faxing the attached registration form. Be sure to register today since pre-registration is necessary to participate in the teleconference.
Participating on the call will be Gail McLarnon and Brian Smith, both management and program analysts at the Department of Education. For COHEAO members, the teleconference will cost $75. For non-members, $100.
If you have any question regarding the teleconference, contact Harrison Wadsworth (hwadsworth@wpllc.net), Andrew Stringer (astringer@wpllc.net) or call 202-289-3910.
