Today, the House of Representatives passed an omnibus spending bill that funds several federal agencies, including the Department of Education, for FY2005. The legislation does not fund the Perkins Loan Federal Capital Contribution. Loan cancellations are funded at $66.7 million - the same as in FY2004.
The Senate is expected the pass the bill later today or tomorrow.
The final appropriation for loan cancellation may be slightly smaller due to an across the board cut in order to bring total discretionary spending within the budget resolution.
COHEAO will continue to monitor the legislation as it moves through the Senate.
