Preliminary reports indicate that the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education will recommend level funding for the Perkins Loan Program for FY2005, although no official numbers have been released by the subcommittee yet. This will mean that for FY2005, the Perkins Loan Program will receive the same amount of funding it did in FY2004 - $98.8 million for the Perkins Loan Federal Capital Contribution and $66.7 million for Loan Cancellations. The House, which is currently debating its appropriations bill on the House floor, is sticking to its position of no funding for the Capital Contribution. The letters and calls to Congressional offices are helping to keep funding for Perkins. Please keep them coming!
We will continue to provide updates when more information is available.
